I have a thing about trains. Always wanted to ride ’em. Always wanted to travel like a hobo – down and dirty, wind in my hair, yadda yadda.
Now it seems the only people who ride trains are crusty punks. And while I was once asked, seriously, recently, if I was a crusty punk, I’m not. Have never been. And so ya, I was offended. I’ve actually had a job. For real.
Crusties aside, this shit looks fun, right?
And so I’ve spent my morning, drinking stovetop espresso, listening to this gutter-punk/folk-fusion revival on youtube and looking at photos here.

Greg Miller. Photographer. New York, New York.

Greg Miller’s series of swimmers’ portraits. The top two are from a series shot on a large format 8×10 camera, entitled Asser Levy Pool from 1995.
The bottom two are from a follow-up shoot at the same pool, this summer. They were shot on an absurd-looking polaroid camera (pictured).
Nothing like a city swim…

summer / food / fun.

I just came from my friend Dave’s afternoon, mid-week farm market. He’s growing some really great shit.
I bought eggs and carrots and herbs and lettuces and onions and tomatoes and tri-coloured beans and zucchini.
Inspired. Gonna make some summer foods.

i know where the summer goes.

Ryan McGinley. Photographer. New York.

I know this series of photographs is from years ago, but I’ve got spring fever and it captures the summer season so well.
McGinley’s one of my favourite photographers, mostly because of the film quality, the smokiness (which seems to be part literal smoke and part film stock), the youthful subjects, the near-reality of the shots.
Reminds me of all the times I’ve driven across the prairies, in the sun, naked.
