Marshall ‘Major’ Taylor. World Champion Track Cyclist, 1899. American. 1878-1932.

I’m building a fixed-gear bike and I’m excited about it.
Major Taylor is a legend in the track scene, one of the greats. He was also only the second black man to ever be world champion of anything (after George Dixon, a boxer from Africville, Nova Scotia).
There’s even an illustrated children’s book about the Major.
As much as everyone bemoans the resurgence of fixed-gears, I’m personally excited about the current cycling renaissance and the popularity of simple, good-looking bikes.
